Why Is It Called Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is named after the German word “Oktober,” meaning October, because the original festival began on October 12, 1810, to celebrate the royal wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Bavaria. Though most of the event now takes place in September for better weather, the name remains a nod to its historic October origins.
