Why is Oktoberfest in September?

Oktoberfest is held in September every year due to longer days and warmer weather in Munich, Germany. Originally celebrated in October, the festival then moved to September as people started to complain about the rainy October weather in Bavaria. Organizers realized that the milder temperatures and longer daylight hours of this month were more favorable for outdoor festivities. The festival start date gradually shifted earlier into September while still ending in early October to maintain its traditional name.
